UK Businesses Failing To Take Datacentre Expert Advice

Businesses are increasing the use of consultants for their design and specifications of datacentre facilities, but almost all of them are choosing to ignore their advice.

According to a survey commissioned by datacentre solutions specialist Sentrum, this year, 88 per cent of IT managers said they would turn to independent datacentre consultants for advice on designing a datacentre. Last year that figure was just 52 per cent.

However, a staggering 97 per cent of UK businesses admitted that they had ignored some or all of the advice they received. Sentrum said that this figure suggests there is a poor level of trust in the advice given by these consultants.

"It's encouraging that companies want to gain a better understanding and take more control of their datacentre design. Any specialist consultancy offered should be a logical and cost-effective business investment, but the research shows that this just isn't the case," said Franek Sodzawiczny, development director and partner at Sentrum.

"Advice is commonly rejected, which suggests that consultants are either not doing their homework or that they are not gaining the trust and understanding of their client. If this lack of trust continues to be apparent many businesses will simply fail to reap the savings that quality consultancy should, and could, deliver."
