100 police disciplined for email

One hundred police officers and staff have been disciplined for circulating an email showing an image of a decapitated black man.

Fifteen of the most senior officers and staff at Hertfordshire Police were given formal reprimands, or the civilian equivalent.

Another 85 were disciplined with a formal warning.

The email showed several images, originating from the US, entitled ‘Do not run from the police’. An investigation was launched by the force and Independent Police Complaints Commission.

It found 400 people received the email, 300 of whom deleted it.

Deputy Chief Con Simon Ash said he was ‘disappointed’, adding: ‘We have been able to clearly re0instate the high standards of conduct required.’

The Black police Association said sanctions were appropriate.
