1/10 of Web Users Visit Twitter

According to the latest data from comScore, Twitter is now used by 93 million people globally.

This means that one in ten people who access the web are now using Twitter and keep in mind that this survey is based purely on visits to the Twitter website, and does not account for access from third-party applications.

This means that comScore's metrics are probably more indicative than accurate however the patterns fn growth which they show are being viewed as particularly interesting by market analysts.

June's figures show that the number of monthly users is up 109 per cent from this time last year, to 92,874,000, with the biggest growth in Latin America and Asia Pacific.

Growth has been slowest in North America where Twitter has already been established for some time and the site has grown at 22 per cent year on year.

Graham Mudd, vice president for search and media at comScore said that 75 per cent of web users now access social networking sites every month. "That makes it one of the most ubiquitous activities on the web. As users around the world have become acquainted with connecting and expressing themselves through social media it has created an environment where new media like twitter can emerge globally in a relatively short space of time."
