Internet users are being targeted in a scam which sees them paying £1.50 a minute to surf the Internet. The scam works by sending pop-up messages to computer screens.
Once opened the pop-up replaces the user’s connection number with a premium rate one.
BT has created free software to combat the problem thought to have cost £8million last year.
Since its launch 4 weeks ago, it has alerted about 8000 users.
