BA deny new online charge

British Airways is strongly denying that it is introducing an extra charge for online bookings.

A spokesperson for the airline told TravelMole that fares are simply becoming more transparent. "We are going to show people exactly where their money is going by breaking down the taxes and charges to show the fare, then the amount that covers a security fee, fuel surcharge, airports taxes and charges and a £1 booking fee," he said.

The spokesman added that the airline has always charged a £1 booking fee online.

Reports in the press over the weekend suggested BA passengers who book flights on ba.com would face an extra charge of up to £10. The move was criticised by BA's no-frills rivals, which claimed the extra charge is unjustified because websites are relatively inexpensive to run.
