Blatter Joins Twitter For World Cup

Sepp Blatter, FIFAs president has opened a Twitter account ahead of the start of the World Cup in South Africa.

Blatter's account, @seppblatter, became active on Thursday, the day before the opening game of the tournament.

The 74-year-old Swiss had already received over 3,000 followers by that same early evening, all clearly eager to hear Blatter's comments in slightly shorter bursts than usual throughout the games.

However, not all of those take part in the World Cup will be able to use the popular micro-blogging site.

Players from the Netherlands have been banned from using Twitter during the World Cup following a controversial comment by countryman Eljero Elia. The statement from Elia, which was left on a live video screening not too long ago - led to a highly publicised racism row, and is clearly leading managers to be cautious of the dangers of social media.
