Conservative candidate phishes for support

A conservative election candidate admitted setting up a Web-forwarding service so that voters logging on to his opponent’s site were diverted to his own.

George Hollingbery denied ‘playing dirty’ and said he was ‘just being creative’ when he used his computer knowledge to divert people typing in www.markoaten.co.uk to his own site.

A spokesman for his opponent, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, said he viewed My Hollingbery’s actions as ‘petty’.

He added ‘Feedback from constituents seems to suggest that this is not what they want from a prospective MP.’

The prospective Parliamentary candidate for Winchester stopped the diversion before an official request came from Tory central office.

‘Because his opponent was so reasonable about his cheeky tactic he felt it was timely to bring it to an end,’ a spokesman said.
