Facebook Claims 150 Million Mobile Users


Facebook claims to have about 150 million mobile users and has stated that mobile phones look set to be a crucial platform for the future.

According to US reports Eric Tseng, head of mobile products at Facebook told attendees of the MobileBeat 2010 conference in San Francisco, "Mobile is fast becoming our growth lever."

Zuckerberg announced that the number of Facebook mobile users had reached 100 million in April, which marked a 50 per cent growth in the past three months.

Tseng predicts Facebook's mobile platforms will be equal with its PC browser-based interface in the next six months as mobile phones become the main way of connecting to the internet in many emerging countries.

The social networking firm is planning to update the application programming interfaces (APIs) for the Android and iPhone platforms.

Facebbok has announced plans to update the applicatino programming interfaces as well as extending Facebook features to other sites to take full advantage of mobile useand enable things like friends' ratings to be incorporated into local restaurant promotions.
