Facebook to double its workforce

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's chief executive has told Bloomberg that the online social-networking site will increase its staff numbers by 50 percent this year, helped by the recession.

Facebook currently has more than 250 million registered users and revenues will be up 70 percent in 2009 reports state.

"No one else has been hiring," said Zuckerberg. "It's been a great environment for us because the economy has helped out."

Rival social networker MySpace, however, has announced that it was slashing two-thirds of its workforce just months ago.

Currently, Facebook employs over 900 employees and Zuckerberg suggested that he wanted to build staff numbers to around 2,000.
