Glasgow gets its own television station online

Glasgow City Council is launching its own online television channel to help promote the city to a worldwide audience.

The 24-hour-a-day broadband service, called www.Glasgow.tv, has been set up to better promote the city globally and has been created by digital specialist Narrowstep.

Narrowstep CEO Iolo Jones said: "Glasgow is a great city to utilise our services and show that broadband TV channels are an effective way of showcasing properties and generating revenue at the same time."

Programming on the channel, which carries advertising, includes films of local events such as the Fresh n Low Great Scottish Run, the Red Bull Railstorm snowboarding competition and the World Pipe Band Championships.

It will also feature footage of the launch of the Glasgow Clipper yacht, which is taking part in the Clipper Around the World Race later this year.

Glasgow City councillor Alex Mosson said: "Having our own scheduled TV channel is the perfect way to bring our city to life and offer people around the world a chance to see it first hand."
