Google Hopes to Half Search Time With Caffeine

Google has today announced the release of a new indexing system that will allegedly halve the time it takes to find information on the web.

No matter what format online information may take, Google Caffeine will be capable of retrieving it at rapid speeds by processing hundreds of thousands of pages in parallel every second.

The new system takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in the Google database and will continue to add hundreds of thousands of gigabytes each day.

Software engineer Carrie Grimes spoke about caffeine today on Google's blog saying that the programme examined the web in small sections and continually updated the Google search index.

She said, "As we find new pages, or new information on existing pages, we can add these straight to the index."

Google stated that this new technology has been put in place to meet the higher expectations of users want to see their stories listed as soon as they are online.
