Google to generate 600 jobs in Dublin expansion

Internet search engine company Google Inc said yesterday it was expanding its operations in Dublin, creating 600 new jobs over the next two to three years.

Google set up its European headquarters in Dublin last year, providing sales, engineering, financial and other services to customers in more than 35 countries.

John Herlihy, Google's European director of online sales and operations, said locating in Dublin had proved to be a "great decision".

"We have found that the quality of the Irish workforce has enabled us to improve our products and services in a way that has proven to be highly beneficial for our customers," Herlihy said in a statement.

Google, which employs 800 people in Europe, was set up by two U.S. students in 1998 and went public 15 months ago, since when the price of its shares has quintupled.
