GQ iPad Sales Fail To Meet Expectations

GQ has sold 365 copies of its December 2009 issue on the Apple iPad.

The magazine was priced at $2.99 to download which is a huge $2 less than the cost of the magazine off the shelf.

Much to the surprise of many experts, GQ has stated that it is pleased with this result.

Hunsinger says "This costs us nothing extra: no printing or postage. Everything is profit, and I look forward to the time when iPad issue sales become a major component to our circulation."

Apple have reported a steady increase in sales for the iPhone and iPad touch and this combined with a bestselling May issue for GQ is leaving both companies optimistic.

Although these statistics are far from conclusive, it seems clear that the iPad is not going to be the saviour which some publishers had hoped for.

Nevertheless it may still prove to be a profitable new distribution platform for magazines and publisher Conde Nast are still continuing with the development of more iPad versions of their most popular titles.

Vanity became available for download this week and Wired is expected to be released on the iTunes library this summer.
