Hackers sent to jail

A pair of computer hackers who helped spread a global virus have been jailed. Andrew Harvey, 24, and Jordan Bradley, 22, admitted a conspiracy charge at Newcastle Crown Court in May.

The two were arrested at their homes following a joint investigation by specialist high-tech crime officers in Britain and the US.

The arrests, in February 2003, were witnessed by officers from the US Computer and Technology Crime Hi-tech team, which had flown in from southern California.

As part of the investigation, another man was arrested in Illinois, USA, in February 2003.

Harvey, of Meldon Avenue, Sherburn, County Durham, and Bradley, of Bates Avenue, Darlington, both admitted conspiracy to cause unauthorised modification of computers with intent between December 31, 2001 and February 7, 2003.

The pair were due to be sentenced a week ago but the case was delayed for administrative reasons.
