Connectivity as Important as Safety in Car Choice

Leaders in the automotive industry believe that internet connectivity will be as important as safety levels when purchasing a car over the next five years.

A recent survey revealed that 34 per cent of industry leaders believe that consumer purchasing decisions will be driven by a car's internet connectivity and built-in technologies, the same level of importance as safety.

Web-connected cars could become the norm in the next few years as KPMG's Global Automotive Executive Survey found that a third of automotive companies intend to collaborate with technology companies to develop new products.

We are likely to see more partnerships like that of Intel and Toyota last year, who joined forces to develop an 'infotainment' system and connected cars becoming the norm.

The survey, of 200 industry leaders, revealed that a massive 63 per cent of automotive executives expect a convergence between car makers and leading technology groups.
