Launch of New Self Destructing Text Messaging Service

A new service "Safe Text" has been launched today and allows the sending of self destructing text messages.

The makers of "Safe Text" - the Mission: Impossible style destructing SMS, say that because the messages leave no trace, they could be a boon to those who are misbehaving.

As soon as the new Safe Texts have been read they vanish from the device which has received them.

With many celebrities recently under scrutiny for the sending of salacious text messages, the creator of the new service, Ogilvy Advrtising is confident that the technology will be a huge success stating: "one day, everyone will have a facility like Safe Text."

Users can sign up to the new service by sending a regular text message with the word "Wired" to 83118. This grants the user access to a site which can be viewed on any mobile device and has a data connection allowing users to send their own message from there.

When the text message is received, users are cautioned that they will only be able to read the text message once before it disappears.

The service offers users up to ten free Safe Text messages each day and has been launched in conjunction with the first anniversary of "Wired" magazine.

The magazine has said that it plans to maintain this free service indefinitely, although this could be reassessed if "millions" of users sign up.
