Launch of Brit blog awards

The Best of Brit Blog Awards 2007 launches this week, rewarding the UK’s most talented bloggers backed by Ask.com and Metro.

Internet search engine Ask.com and Metro newspaper have organised the awards to 'get Britain blogging' with nominations beginning on Thursday.

To nominate a blog entrants must log on to metro.co.uk/blogawards, find their favourite and then fill out a nomination form before March 22. The winners will be announced on April 22.

A panel of celebrity judges, including Alan McGee, founder of Creation Records and Five's Jason Bradbury, will choose winners from eight categories: fashion; travel; sport; politics; art and entertainment; technology; youth and the weird and wonderful.

Myles Runham, Ask.com general manager for Europe, said: "2006 was a landmark year in the development of blogging in the UK and with so much interest in this area, we thought it was time that someone recognised the best British blogs."

Over the past year, blogs -- the shared online journals where people can post diary entries -- have grown rapidly in the UK and are becoming an increasingly popular and influential source of media and opinion.
