Nokia plans for a new version of Linux based OS

At the Open Source in Mobile event last year in Berlin, Nokia unveiled their vision for an Internet Tablet when they announced plans for Maemo 5, a new version of Linux based tablet OS. The Nokia RX-51 has cleared the FCC and looks to be the mentioned Maemo 5 product reports arstechnica.

Images indicate the Nokia RX-51 is a mobile phone as well as an Internet Tablet which is a major step for Maemo and could well reflect a more Linux centric strategy for Nokia.

Nokia announced earlier this year a project named ofono which apparently seeks to construct a total telephony stack for mobile Linux platforms and possibly make Maemo a viable platform for smartphones. For the full article follow the link.
