NTP Sues Web Giants Over Wireless Patents

NTP, the mobile communications firm, has filed patent infringement cases against web giants Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Four years ago, NTP won an estimated $612m from Research in Motion, the makers of BlackBerry, in a similar patent infringement lawsuit.

The Financial Times have today announced that the NTP are planning to file cases against Motorola, HTC and LG over patents covering wireless e-mail transmissions.

This latest wave of cases have been filed in a US federal court in Virginia where NTP was victorious in the jury trial over RIM.

The new cases do not specify any particular amount of damages but Ron Epstein, settlement negotiator for NTP, said the judge in the RIM case had decreed NTP was entitled to royalties of 5.7 per cent of the revenue from the hardware in question.
