Power outage takes Rackspace UK down

Rackspace UK Wednesday experienced a power cut in London Park Royal that knocked out half its servers in the hosting facility. Initial reports suggest that the UPS system failed to kick in leaving customers down from 15:18 GMT until 16:54 GMT.

Subsequent contact from Rackspace technical support suggests that the “LONB” incident knocked out core equipment which also left the other half of hosting clients without connectivity for time within this period.

Official reports indicate that as many as 3000 Rackspace UK customers may have been affected by the outage. This is the second power failure to affect the London Park Royal facility in the last two months.

Rackspace, one of the few hosting providers to promote a 100% uptime guarantee now faces questions over its ability to provide total uptime across its network. The news is exacerbated by an announcement from Rackspace US that they have suffered a series of outages in their Dallas, Texas facility.
