Reuters launches interactive TV channel on the Internet

Reuters has introduced an interactive television channel that will deliver video news stories online from its global news network.

The service, which is available via the Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005, gives access to packaged business and market news, raw footage of world events plus stories of human interest, entertainment and fashion from around the world.

The Reuters channel is available via the Online Spotlight section of the Media Centre, which enables users to watch, pause and record live TV.

Chris Ahearn, president of Reuters Media, said: "This is the first in a series of consumer services we will be launching this year that invite audiences to directly experience our news and information.

"Our philosophy is to offer viewers the ability to choose the news that matters most to them, wherever and whenever it is breaking, and to see for themselves what’s really happening on the ground. This is the future of the television news experience."

The launch of the UK television channel is part of moves by Reuters to develop its consumer offering. The company has also revamped its website and changed its marketing and advertising to drive traffic to the site.
