Strong Christmas helps eBay to record profits

Christmas present sales helped push up eBay’s profits by 24 per cent in the final three months of last year.

Games consoles were the hottest selling items on the online auction site in the final quarter, particularly the Nintendo Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3.

The company’s total revenues worldwide for the period hit a record £865million – 29 per cent up on the year before – while net income grew by 24 per cent to £176million
