Summit to Drive Linux Forward

Linux is to boost its growth in the automotive industry with the announcement of the first ever Automotive Linux Summit.

The aim of the summit is to encourage face-to-face collaboration between experts from the automotive industry and Linux.

As an open source operating system, Linux provides a common platform to connect devices - including cars. Cars are fast becoming the latest wireless devices with innovations from dashboard computing to in-vehicle infotainment (IVI).

The summit has been specifically designed to bring together innovation from the automotive industry and the Linux developer community to learn about how to use Linux and open source software in automotive applications ranging from in-vehicle on-board systems to cloud solutions for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications.

Global leaders in automotive innovation are set to participate in the summit. The Steering Committee is made up of representatives from DENSO Corporation, Intel, NEC, Nissan, Renesas and Toyota, among others.

"Automakers are lining up to learn more about Linux and the Linux development process, and developers need to learn more about how to work with these companies," said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation.

"By hosting the first ever Automotive Linux Summit, we can help bring together the brightest minds from these communities to maximize the opportunity for Linux in this marketplace."

The summit is set to take place on November 28, 2011 at Pacifico Yokohama in Japan.
