UberMedia Planning to Launch Twitter Rival

Social apps developer UberMedia is reportedly planning to launch a rival to micro-blogging service Twitter for users who are not happy with the platform.

Citing unnamed sources familiar to the matter, a report on CNN revealed that the company is building a Twitter rival which addresses the core complaints that users have against Twitter, including the length of the messages and functionality that could be confusing to new users.

According to CNN's sources, UberMedia is developing the platform as a back-up if its relationship with Twitter becomes too strained to continue.

Earlier, Twitter had banned three UberMedia apps from accessing its API citing violation of its policies. UberMedia was forced to change the names of one of its apps from UberTwitter to UberSocial.

UberMedia offers Smartphone and web based apps that give access to popular social networks from single platform. The company's Twitter apps are very popular with UberSocial, Echofon and Twidroyd accounting for 11.5 percent all the Tweets sent in a single day last month.

Metrics released by market research firm Sysomos reveal that UberSocial is the third most popular way of sending Tweets after Twitter's own website and the official iPhone app.
